• GPO Perspective |
has become a hot topic through 2008. The January 2009 GPS Newsletter is Part 1 of 2 that will provide Distributor and GPO perspectives. Part 2 (Feb 15th) will provide both IDN and Industry perspectives. DISTRIBUTOR PERSPECTIVE
Anyone approaching the vendor credentialing issue immediately asks "How does this affect my business?" "What are my alternatives." "How can I make my voice heard?" These are the questions that will be addressed here from a distributor perspective. Dee Ann Cross - Director, Operations - Novation LLC Vendor credentialing is a complex issue within the healthcare industry. Hospitals want vendor credentialing to help ensure the safety of their patients and the quality of patient care elated to vendors who provide training or guidance in the direct presence of a patient. A statement in an article from the November issue of AORN Connections states that "today hospitals and healthcare companies are at a tipping point. Each is working to manage high costs, increasing time requirements and lack of standards available for credentialing the healthcare industry representatives (HCIRs) that enter hospitals across the country on a daily basis".

Terry Cox - Director, Suppy Chain - Texas Childrens Baby Steps - I have been in the Healthcare Supply Chain for almost 27 years. Twenty of those years were in the federal government sector, five in for profit healthcare (similar to grad school, meaning I learned allot) and now the last two years in not for profit. Interestingly, all sectors have similar issues and goals. Certainly when I first started in this wonderful career field the goal was never run out of anything. This meant seamless uninterrupted support to the clinicians was King with not much concern about cost. The last few years I was in the employ of our great nation, the government started to move towards just in time inventory, six sigma, etc.
